UNIVERSITY SCHOLARS INITIATIVE
Enable a Young Scholar in India to Realize Their University Dreams
& Change the Course of Their Life
For many youth from rural, impoverished, and low caste communities, the dream of pursuing higher education feels unattainable. And to be female on top of that adds a whole new level of socio-cultural stressors. However, it is exactly those young women who are able to move forward in their education and obtain a degree and/or professional training who have the greatest potential for breaking the cycle of poverty in their communities.
Over the past 8 years, we have sponsored 112 talented youth in India through this initiative, which has enabled recipients to stay in school and manifest their dreams with 68 of these youth having already graduated and joined the workforce! Building off this success, a new cohort of young people have been selected to receive a Visions scholarship for 2024-2025. These young women (and a few exceptional young men) all hail from disadvantaged, and mostly rural dalit or scheduled caste communities throughout Tamil Nadu.
In order to make their dreams a reality, each one is in need of minor financial assistance for tuition and living expenses.
